Job Description

Sacramento County is home to the California state capital, 1.6 million residents and seven incorporated cities: Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Folsom, Galt, Isleton, Rancho Cordova and Sacramento. Residents in Sacramento County have a variety of recreational, dining and entertainment options to choose from. The County has more than 15,000 acres of park, plus the 23-mile American River Parkway, where more than five million visitors enjoy the unique wildlife and recreation area annually. The County is a leader in the 21st century economy with growing advanced manufacturing, agriculture and food, clean energy technology, information and communications technology and life sciences.

In 1933, the Sacramento County Charter was established, along with the County Executive position. The County is governed by five members of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, elected on a non-partisan basis to serve staggered four-year terms, each representing one of the five districts. The County’s Approved Fiscal Year (FY) 2024-25 Budget is over $8.8 billion, and there are more than 13,600 full-time employees.

The Department of Personnel Services, reporting to the Deputy County Executive of the Administrative Services Agency, provides high-quality centralized personnel services to County departments and personnel resources for the community to attract, develop, motivate, and retain a diverse workforce within a supportive environment. The Department’s Fiscal Year 2024-25 Budget is approximately $160 million, including the self-insured programs, and receives funding from County Departments through the Allocated Cost Package and direct services provided to departments. There are currently 225 full-time employees in the Department.

The County is seeking a new Director of Personnel Services with a proven track record of success in labor relations, negotiations, and employee relations. The Director of Personnel Services will plan, organize, evaluate, and direct the operations and activities of the Department.
