Training and Experience

Any combination of training and experience that provides the above-listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way of qualifying would be:

Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in public or business administration, urban planning, economics, marketing, finance, or a related field and five years of increasingly responsible experience in economic development, planning, community development, redevelopment, real estate, housing development or a related field. A Master's degree is desirable. Certification as a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) or Accredited California Economic Developer (ACE) is desirable.

Other Requirements

Must possess a valid California Class C Driver’s License and maintain possession of such license during the course of employment.

Must have an acceptable driving record, be insurable at standard rates by City’s insurance carrier, and maintain such insurability during the course of employment.

Job Description

Cathedral City is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as our new Economic Development Manager. This is an exceptional opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the economic future of our vibrant desert community.

DEADLINE TO APPLY:

THE ROLE
The Economic Development Manager plans, organizes, manages and coordinates the City’s comprehensive economic development program. This includes initiatives for business retention, expansion, attraction, incentives, and fostering growth to create jobs and increase revenue. Key responsibilities include:
  • Developing and implementing the economic development strategic plan, goals and actionable work plans
  • Creating and marketing programs to attract, retain and expand businesses
  • Conducting market research to identify industries suitable for the City
  • Facilitating real estate development opportunities and priority projects
  • Guiding development projects through approval processes
  • Supporting affordable housing policies and programs
  • Negotiating development agreements, contracts and proposals
  • Building partnerships with businesses, organizations and regional stakeholders
  • Promoting the City through presentations and outreach efforts
