Job Requirements
- High school graduation and experience in Parks and Recreation programming; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- General knowledge of all phases of municipal recreation and administration.
- General knowledge of the principles and methods of parks and playground planning and development.
- Working knowledge of the applications of information technology to administrative and recreational tasks.
- Ability to plan, implement and facilitate well rounded recreational and athletic programs.
- Ability to assist with as well as organize and coordinate the work of a wide variety of volunteers and season and temporary workers.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with volunteers and to promote and maintain high morale and enthusiasm.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
- General knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment utilized I the area of assigned work.
- General knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety precautions with assigned are of work.
- Some knowledge of equipment maintenance and its operation.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with coworkers and the general public.
Job Description
- An employee in this class performs a variety of administrative as well as manual labor tasks related to supervising programs. This employee will assist as well as supervise seasonal youth programs and sports. Work varies by season but includes supervision of part-time employees, sporting events as well as referees and volunteers. Work subjects the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions and extremely hot and cold temperatures. Work requires extensive public contact with private groups, civic organizations, Town officials and the general public in assisting with the promotion, development, and maintenance of recreation programs. Work is performed at the general supervision of the Recreation Director.
- Duties

- Oversees the activities of staff and volunteers; plans, assigns, trains, directs, and monitors staff duties.
- Assist in the developing of long range plans for the provision of recreational facilities, parks and open space for the leisure time enjoyment of the public.
- Works with the Parks and Recreation Director and other town officials in receiving input from the community with regard to the recreation and parks needs, problems and utilize such input for the overall planning and programming.
- Works collaboratively with internal and external customers.
- Work under a budget that has been developed by the Town of Maiden and approved by the Town Council.
- Responds to and reports to the Parks and Recreation Director any citizen and participants complaints and concerns.
- Assist with the monitoring and assurance that all parks and facilities are keep clean and neat.
- Performs administrative tasks, such as attending and scheduling meetings, preparing reports, monitoring expenditures, and maintaining records.
- Stands in for the Recreation Director in his/her absence.
- Assists in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and staff training for program areas.
- Performs routine facility maintenance and logistics, including but not limited to, the setup and tear down of tables, chairs, equipment, and supplies.
- Responsible for custodial, event, class, program field, and facility logistics.
- Provides communication and written documentation regarding all recreation program areas and facility activities, including, but not limited to, damages, problems, needs, issues, and compliance with rental agreements, policies, and procedures.
- Monitors inventory, orders supplies, and maintains concession stand during sports seasons.
- Performs related duties as required.
