Job Requirements

Graduation from a standard high school or GED equivalent; AND minimum five (5) years employment with WV law enforcement or court system.

1. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and 360 email, Zuercher Suite RMS.

2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

3. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion

4. Ability to work independently and multi-task.

5. General law enforcement codes, practices, and methods.

6. Basic knowledge of the criminal justice system and the processing of information throughout the system.

7. Research and analyze a variety of information and prepare clear and concise reports pertaining to court proceedings and other court related activity on a quarterly basis

8. Ability to operate general office equipment.

9. Understanding of the legal system and processes.

10. Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including defense and prosecution attorneys as well as law enforcement personnel.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

1. Associates or Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice

2. Maintenance of records and/or evidence

3. Prior law enforcement experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:

a. Walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time

Job Description

This position coordinates strategies and maintains communication in criminal proceedings to administratively assist participating law enforcement agencies as it pertains to procedure and process of defendants in Wood County Magistrate Court. These cases are limited to criminal proceedings involving the Parkersburg Police Department, Vienna Police Department, Williamstown Police Department, and the Wood County Sheriff’s Office.

RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Coordinate prosecution strategies with Wood County Prosecuting Attorney’s office and law enforcement.

2. Coordinate all Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) activities facilitated through magistrate court

3. Present documents to include, but not limited to law enforcement officers, prosecutors or assistant prosecutors, defense counsel, magistrates, magistrate assistants, and clerks.

4. Review reports and documentation/paperwork regarding misdemeanor and felony cases.

5. Analyze records, trends, develop reports, and present reports to Leadership of participating agencies at minimum on a quarterly basis.

6. Coordinate with officers to ensure availability and accountability for appearance at trial.

7. Assist in preparing State witnesses for trial or hearing.

8. Accept court notices for officers on behalf of participating agencies (see above).

9. Advise the presiding magistrate of the status of officers who will not appear in court due to illness,

10. Notify participating agencies of changes in court procedures

11. Inform the appropriate Department of court related situations or incidents which are sensitive to the affected Department, newsworthy, etc.

12. Attend meetings with members of the judicial system and other law enforcement agencies to exchange information and develop goodwill and create a good working rapport with all court personnel.

13. Attend hearings on behalf of the participating agencies as necessary and appropriate.

14. Performs related work as assigned by leadership of the participating agencies (Chiefs of Police & Wood County Sheriff)
