License or Certificate: Possession of a current, valid driver's license at the time of appointment. Possession of current, valid Nevada Emergency Medical Technician certification or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certification, Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Note: Applicants who do not currently meet the minimum EMT certification requirements at the time of application must submit proof of enrollment in either one of the certification processes as part of their online application to have their application accepted. This is an open competitive opportunity for individuals who meet the minimum qualifications. This is a continuous testing process that will establish an eligibility list for current and future openings. As applications are received, results will be merged into one eligible list according to final ratings, pursuant to the rules and regulations of the Civil Service Commission: Rule VI, Section 11, Continuous Examination.
Candidates will need to have met all the requirements AND have a valid CPAT dated no more than 12 months prior to the date of application but must be within one year of the actual certification date, The next round of hiring will be for the Spring 2023 Academy. Applicants who have a CPAT date that expires within this one year period will be contacted prior to the next certification process.

SUMMARY OF POSITION
This is the entry level position for the Fire Department with responsibility for firefighting, life saving, and other related work activities connected with the response to emergency and other incidents, fire prevention, equipment operation and maintenance, facility maintenance, work and skill readiness and other related tasks.
Examples of Essential Functions
- Respond to fires and other emergency or public assistance incidents in a timely, safe, and skilled manner and participate in their control through hose laying, ladder operations, ventilation, extinguishment, salvage and other activities as part of team effort.
- Rescue person endangered by fires or other hazards and administer first aid to injured parties when assigned.
- Conduct inspections and other fire prevention tasks including fire safety education to eliminate or reduce fire hazards and enforce fire codes.
- Develop and maintain high levels of work knowledge and skills for various duties through training, manipulative drills and other skill maintenance programs.
- Operate and maintain properly and safely firefighting and other related equipment and apparatus in an efficient and effective manner.
- Keep fire station and other facilities in a clean, orderly and usable condition.
- Assist in completing other day-to-day work such as record keeping and map maintenance.
- Perform various public information and relations tasks, as appropriate and assigned through written and oral form.
- Maintain an adequate level of physical fitness to perform firefighting, rescue, equipment operation, and other related tasks.
