Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to the attainment of a Bachelor’s Degree (MPA or MBA preferred) complemented by at least ten (10) years of increasingly responsible management experience preferably gained in a local government. Recent experience as a local government department head, assistant or deputy manager will also be considered. Although it is not a requirement, experience with diversity would be very helpful.
The City of Stockbridge in Henry County is seeking a City Manager. Stockbridge is a diverse city of approximately 36,000 residents located approximately twenty miles south of Atlanta and twelve miles east of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Stockbridge is the largest city in Henry County and is often recognized as the gateway to Henry County. The City has close proximity to I-75 as well as I-675. The City operates with a staff of approximately 185 budgeted full-time employees and a total budget of $62,188,618 of which the General Fund comprises $29,239,311. Stockbridge maintains a very healthy financial status, reserve funding as well as an outstanding audit. Funding sources include City property taxes, local option sales tax revenues and other tax revenues and fees.
The City government operates under the council/city manager form of government in accordance with its Charter. Accordingly, the City has five elected Council members and a Mayor. The City Manager is appointed by the City Council.
The Stockbridge City Charter provides that the City Manager is responsible for implementing policy direction established by the City Council. Further, the City Manager provides management and leadership over all the affairs of the City appoints and oversees department heads and subordinate staff in areas such as budget development and management, council meeting coordination, report preparation, initiating and implementing opportunities to enhance municipal service delivery, and striving for continuous improvement in all core City functions. The City Manager is expected to effectively guide a motivated and talented team of professionals who possess the expertise, enthusiasm and work ethic needed to ensure responsive and collaborative service. The successful applicant will be aggressive in facing and responding to the City’s existing and future challenges; setting example for others and inspiring the staff to assume individual and collective responsibility. Stockbridge’s City Manager must have a firm grasp of the full breadth of municipal management functions and must be particularly strong in Municipal Finance, Community Development, and Economic Development. He or she must be innovative and bring workable approaches that provide effective and efficient public services.
