Job Description
The City of Carlsbad is accepting applications for the position of Animal Control Officer. Job duties will include enforcing animal control ordinances in and around the City of Carlsbad.
- Patrols the City of Carlsbad in an assigned motor vehicle to capture stray, loose, injured, or unwanted animals using a variety of techniques and equipment.
- Patrols the City of Carlsbad to enforce animal control ordinances and document incidents on police reports and citations when violations are observed, animals captured, and owners identified.
- Picks up and disposes of dead and injured animals.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills
- Knowledge of the City of Carlsbad’s animal control ordinances.
- Knowledge of methods, techniques, and practices for capturing animals, including the types of equipment appropriate for use.
- Knowledge of the names and locations of streets in the City of Carlsbad.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments/City staff and the public.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions, procedures, and guidelines.
- Ability to communicate using standard telephone and two-way radio equipment.
- Skill in capturing stray and/or injured animals.
