Job Description

The City of Sedona is a general law city, operating under a CouncilManager form of government with Council Members and an elected Mayor. The Council appoints the City Manager, who is responsible for carrying out policy enacted by the Council, and overseeing administration of the city. The city hired Anette Spickard as City Manager in April 2024, after the previous Manager retired. She is fostering an environment of trust, collaboration, and accountability. Sedona has a budgeted staff of approximately 201 employees, 186 fulltime. City departments include City Attorney; City Clerk; City Manager; Communications, Tourism & Economic Initiatives; Community Development; Financial Services; Human Resources; Information Technology; Municipal Court; Parks & Recreation; Police; Public Transit; Public Works; Sustainability; and Wastewater. The city enjoys a high degree of public involvement and collaboration on its boards, commissions and advisory groups. Citizens are actively engaged in Sedona’s civic life.

The Director of Financial Services will lead a dynamic team of professionals who seek a leader with high emotional intelligence, who focuses on team, communication and collaboration. This opportunity includes working with an established, tight-knit finance team, and a city leadership team that works in collaboration to reach City Council goals and deliver the highest level of service to the community. Sedona is financially sound, annually contributing to reserves to ensure a fiscally sustainable future. With a 4/10 work schedule, city leadership embraces the importance of mental health and a balanced life. Employees work four 10-hour days each week, giving them Fridays off and an automatic three-day weekend to rest, recharge, and explore all that Sedona and the surrounding area have to offer. From endless opportunities for outdoor recreation to moments of calm reflection and rich cultural experiences, Sedona provides an exceptional environment for both work and life. As the leader of Financial Services, you will be a key leader in the implementation of a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The implementation process is expected to take about 24 months to complete, bringing the city an integrated approach to effective and efficient programs in all areas of the city. The position reports to the Deputy City Manager, who was the previous Director of Financial Services. As Deputy, she oversees three departments and acts as liaison to the Municipal Court. She looks forward to focusing full-time on that role with the hand-off of leadership for the finance team to you.
