NEW Engineer

This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in civil engineering or a related field AND five years of responsible civil engineering experience, preferably in the area of private land development . Other relevant combinations of education and work experience may be evaluated on an individual basis. License or Certificate:

• Must hold a current Montana license as a Professional Engineer or obtain one within 6 months of hire.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record at the time of hire and have the ability to obtain a valid MT driver’s license within six months of hire.

The purpose of this position is to plan, organize and supervise professional engineering programs in the review and inspection of private land development proposals in the City. The position provides highly responsible assistance to the City Engineer.

Essential Duties: These job functions are the essential duties of the position and are not all-inclusive of all the duties the incumbent may be assigned.

This position reviews and approves private development engineering plans and documents for conformance to City design and construction standards, codes and ordinances; performs overall supervision and review of detailed and complex engineering calculations, plans, specifications, and required submittals for private development projects, such as street, water distribution, sewer collection, and storm drainage systems. The incumbent conducts inspections of work-in-progress and
ensures projects are completed in compliance with applicable codes, regulations and standards.

The position evaluates storm, road, drainage, and other utilities as well as general site work for private construction projects and work performed in City right-of-way for compliance with applicable City codes, ordinances and regulations. The incumbent meets with citizens, developers, contractors, other agencies, and City departments. The position responds to questions and complaints from the public concerning drainage, private construction, and other related issues.

The position reviews building permit applications to ensure that developers’ obligations as required by City regulations are clearly defined and identified, relative to street improvements, on-site traffic circulation, water, wastewater , storm drainage, and dedication of street rights-of-way.

The incumbent reviews private development applications and coordinates with other City departments and, as necessary, outside agencies and/or districts to ensure the proposed designs of private development projects are compatible and consistent with City standards and regulations and State and Federal laws. The position interacts with private developers, engineers, other City departments, public agencies and private utility companies on matters related to development processing
