Job Requirements

Education, Certifications and Requirements: Associate Degree from an accredited institution in Public or Business Administration, Fire Science or related field, Seven (7) years of firefighting experience, including three (3) years of experience as a Fire Captain or other administrative role, Completion of Fire Tactics and Procedures Course, Incident Safety Officer training (16hr course), Leadership in Supervision Courses OR equivalent combination of education, experience and training, Valid AZ State Driver’s License, State of AZ Firefighter I & II certification, State of AZ EMCT-EMT certification, BLS Healthcare Provider CPR certification, ICS-100, 200, 300, 700, 800 certification, Fire Inspector I certification.

Within One (1) Year of Date of Hire: ICS-400 certification, Fire Instructor or EMS Instructor, HazMat Technician certification, Fire Arson Investigator I

Preferred Qualifications: Spanish language fluency, Fire Arson I thru IV, Chief Officer certification or Blue Card (Incident Command certification), State of AZ EMCT – Paramedic Certification, Bachelor’s Degree in Public or Business Administration, Fire Science or related field.

Job Description

Responsibilities: Provides supervision and direction over operations of the City’s Fire Department; assist the fire inspection and prevention division and community fire and safety education programs. Receives supervision and direction from the Fire Chief, Fire Marshal or designee. Meets with Fire Chief regarding assignments, planning, organization and coordination of department activities, Directs, supervises and coordinates department staff operations, to include assigned staff, Fire Captains and subordinate personnel, Organize, directs, and coordinates day activities, Arranges for the medical testing of personnel, Assign inventories of supplies and equipment to subordinate personnel, Conducts performance evaluations, Assists in providing training as needed, Periodically witness, documents and assesses proficiency in fire evacuation drills, Answers and documents insurance company inquiries concerning ISO rating, water supply, access and other issues as needed, Assists in enforcing the City fire code and the issuance of fire code operational permits within the City, Oversees billing duties as necessary, Develops EMS and Fire standard operating guidelines, Participates in the update and review of local and state mutual aid agreements.
