Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (BBA) is preferred. May substitute five (5) years progressively responsible managerial experience in fleet management for degree. Valid Texas Driver’s License, Class C, required. Five (5) years progressively responsible managerial experience required, preferably in a municipal environment.

Job Description

Under general direction of the Fleet & Materials Manager, assist the Fleet & Materials Manager in the management duties for the Municipal Garage and vehicle and equipment maintenance and Municipal Service Center facility and fenced premises. Fill in for Fleet & Materials Manager when they are unavailable. Perform other related work as required.

Essential Job Functions

Manage and evaluate subordinates, including but not limited to: Fleet Shift Supervisors, Fleet Services Coordinator, and Fleet Operations Analyst. Manage a large work force that engages in overhaul service and repair of City automotive and industrial equipment. Coordinate selection of personnel and recommend promotions as appropriate. Plan and implement in-service and outside training for subordinate personnel. Establish and maintain preventive maintenance program for vehicles and mechanical equipment. Establish and implement operating policies and procedures for Fleet Services. Coordinate activities of the Municipal Garage with other City user departments. Manage the information system supporting fleet maintenance, fuel management, telematics and any additional systems that support fleet operations assuring accuracy and adequacy of information received from it. Exercise good judgment and resourcefulness in planning and accomplishing departmental objectives. Communicate courteously and effectively with upper-level City management, subordinate personnel, other City employees, vendors, and the public. Manage maintenance and use of Service Center buildings and fenced premises. Establish and maintain safety standards for operation. Establish and maintain standards of housekeeping for Fleet Services. Sit and input data and perform word processing on computer. Drive City and personal vehicles in performance of job functions.

Other Job Functions and Physical Capabilities

May participate in some mechanical work to diagnose equipment malfunctions.
