EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in recreation management or a similar related field of study, ten (10) years of direct experience in recreation programs management, and five (5) years direct experience in recreation center management in a supervisory role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, members of the business community, and the general public. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, citizens groups, and/or boards of directors. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Job Description

Manages and directs a comprehensive offering of recreation operations for Bentonville Parks and Recreation. This position oversees a diverse offering of recreation programs and facilities including physical recreation activities, organized sports, aquatics, non-physical recreation activities, business development, facility usage, staffing, maintenance, custodial support, membership, and community relations. Develops comprehensive current, short-term, and long-term plans and programs for the utilization of facilities and recreation programs to support community needs. Conducts community needs assessments and planning research in the development of recreation activities by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Reporting relationships, work assignments, and work schedules may be subject to change in order to meet City needs or operational requirements. Attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers are essential elements of this position. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for overseeing all recreation program operations within public parks, facilities and programs offered by Bentonville Parks and Recreation.

Develops operating procedures and direct the work of all full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff of the recreation programs.

Performs supervisory functions by: interviewing, selecting, training, evaluating, disciplining, developing, and terminating staff; providing staff with the resources, equipment, tools and knowledge necessary to perform and improve services; and guides employees work efforts in being successful, creating and resourceful within their decision making responsibilities.

Ensures accurate recording of hourly labor and timely accurate payroll processing.

Responsible for ensuring all facilities and surrounding grounds remains a safe, clean environment for the public to utilize for recreational activities.

Develop and monitor all recreation program budgets; track expenses and revenues generated by the programs; track daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly participation figures; implement corrective measures as needed, and report status on a regular basis; make recommendations for capital improvements and equipment.

Analyze reports and evaluations and provides recommendations to Parks and Recreation Deputy Director for future programs.

Responsible for creating and selling sponsorships packages for events to ensure department meets revenue goals.

Leads staff meetings and trainings and gives presentations to various groups and organizations both internal and external.

Oversees the development of recreation program operating procedures and development of emergency and safety procedures.

Maintains knowledge and compliance of contractual obligations with organizations and instructors including concession services.

Responsible for working with Parks and Recreation Director, Deputy Director, and Parks Maintenance Manager to ensure recreation facilities remain clean and presentable for patrons.

Assists with preparing budget and directing expenditures of department funds and keeping of department records.

Attends City Board meetings, including but not limited to Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, City Council, and other committees.

Orders supplies and necessary equipment.

Deals courteously & diplomatically with citizens and the general public.

Performs other related duties as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position directly supervises Full-time and part time recreation workers, seasonal lifeguards, Recreation Specialists, Recreation Program Supervisors, custodians, and maintenance staff who provide direct and indirect support to the Bentonville Community Center and other Bentonville Parks and Recreation facilities.
