Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 70 pounds.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license from the State of Nebraska.
  • Must have a good driving record, with no major violations including (DUI) or (DWI).
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and periodic DOT random drug screenings.
  • Must not appear on the APS/CPS Registry for abuse/neglect or have been dismissed from prior employment due to suspected abuse/neglect.
  • Must have knowledge of streets and highways within Fremont City Limits.
  • Must be able to administer standard first aid (including CPR, if required) and use of basic materials (first aid kit or fire extinguisher) located in the van.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the above knowledge, ability, and skills.

Job Description

This position is responsible for overseeing the Transportation operations of the Fremont Transit Department. The Transportation Manager will plan, direct, and coordinate transportation policies and programs, and oversee work of transportation staff. Manager responsibility will extend to developing strategies to ensure the efficient and cost-effective functioning of public transportation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
  • Ensures confidentiality of all client information.
  • Effectively supervise the transit coordinator and drivers.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, agencies, and businesses to ensure community wide support for the program.
  • Research and secure program funding including, but not limited to, sponsorships and grant funding.
  • Ensure that pertinent information is relayed to/from coordinator, drivers, and/or clients as required to ensure safe, effective, and efficient operation of the transportation program.
  • Collaborate with staff members to formulate and implement transportation related procedures as well as company revenue goals and customer service objectives.
  • Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits and attending safety meetings.
  • Abide by state and federal guidelines, including state and federal grant requirements.
  • Maintain records and reporting on clients, client requests, routes, inventory, etc.
  • Work with other departments to ensure proper vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Follow city purchasing processes and guidelines regarding all equipment needs.
  • Manage budgets and reimbursement procedures for state and federal entities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Ability to understand and comply with various laws, rules, regulations, policies and guidelines as they pertain to City of Fremont and the Department of Transportation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing and be able to establish effective working relationships with many different people, ranging from transportation clients, community professionals and representatives, City of Fremont staff and the general public.
  • Be a strong team player with a positive attitude toward working with staff and with clients.
  • Must have good computer skills with general knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and the ability to learn other computer systems. Experience with TripMaster software a plus.
