Job Requirements

  • An accredited Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of developing and administering an organization’s human resources programs which may include compensation, benefits, recruitment, organizational employee development, employee and labor relations, equal opportunity, retirement, and/or HR information systems;
  • OR high school graduation and 5 years within an public or private human resources department administering and interpreting an organization's human resources programs which may include compensation, benefits, recruitment, organizational employee development, employee and labor relations, equal opportunity, retirement, and/or HR information systems.
  • Must possess a valid State –issued driver’s license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies.
  • Preference given to candidates with compensation experience.

Job Description

The Human Resources Department provides strategic leadership and administrative support for all workforce-related functions across the City. As a key partner to City departments, the team develops and implements policies, programs, and services that support organizational effectiveness and position the City as an employer of choice. Responsibilities include recruitment and hiring, compensation and classification, employee benefits, retirement administration, and workforce development. The department also oversees compliance programs such as unemployment compensation, and workplace policies, ensuring a supportive, equitable, and well-managed work environment for City employees.

The City of Kansas City, Missouri is hiring a Compensation Analyst to join the Human Resources Department’s Compensation Division. In this role, you’ll help administer the City’s compensation plans and job classification system  from job audits and salary benchmarking to supporting HR system upgrades and data analysis.

What You’ll Do

  • Assists the Manager of Compensation with the administration of the City’s compensation plans, including position auditing, class specification development, salary benchmarks and organizational/employee development
  • Works closely with departments in the development, maintenance, administration, and education of compensation plans and job classifications
  • Completes salary surveys and market studies and prepares summary of findings to determine proper classification and pay grades of positions
  • Conducts job audits of employee job duties to determine proper job classification
  • Prepares research/analysis on compensation and classification issues and assists in the implementation of findings
  • Assists the functional lead for the current HRM module; provides coordination with HR Information Systems Division and IT on known issues related to Workforce Administration, including researching, testing, and documentation of non-compliant functionality
  • Provides assistance for HRM upgrades, including business process analysis, testing, and process documentation
  • Provides expertise in data analytics and formulating spreadsheets
  • Possesses knowledge of the FLSA, federal laws and regulations surrounding wages
  • Possesses knowledge of payroll and timekeeping systems and rules, policies, and Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) provisions that govern pay changes and records retention
